The grave
In December 1998, upon request, I received notification from the Steglitz District Office that the right to use the grave site of Walter Rutt, where his wife Gertrud and his sister-in-law Clara Brinkmeier were also buried, would expire on October 6, 2003, and that the grave would have to be leveled thereafter. However,
I was informed of the possibility of applying for the grave to be designated as a grave of honor. I submitted such an application to the Berlin Senate Administration on March 21, 1999.
At its meeting on August 21, 2001, the Berlin Senate granted the grave of Walter Rutt the status of an honorary grave for an initial period of 20 years by resolution No. 224/01.
The district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf in Berlin was asked to ensure ongoing maintenance. Plants were added and the grave was marked with a clay tile in front of the actual gravestone.
Visitors can find Walter Rutt's grave in the Steglitz Cemetery, Bergstraße 38, in section 58, number 214.
