Advertising vignette for the Weil factory
This advertising sticker was part of a set of ten vignettes depicting cyclists who were under contract with Torpedo. (Rutt, Ebert, Großkopf, Grossmann, Höppner, Nettelbeck, Rosenfeld, Salzmann, Stellbrink, Weiß)
There were two versions of the vignette. The other version showed the same motif but bore the inscription “Walter Rutt rides Torpedo.” One such specimen is also part of the collection.
Postcard from the 1901 Grand Prix de Paris
Walter Rutt's first major appearance was depicted on this colored picture postcard.
The young professional came second in the 1901 Grand Prix de Paris, behind Thorvald Ellegaard and ahead of Willy Arend.
Postcard from the Six Day Race in Frankfurt in 1911
Walter Rutt won alongside John Stol, ahead of the Miquel-Comes team. The team also won the Berlin Six-Day Race in 1911, although their success hung in the balance in the final.
Signed caricature
This is the most famous caricature by Walter Rütt, drawn by former cyclist Howard Freeman.
The card was sent from Walter Rütt's apartment, and on the back there is a red stamp with his Berlin address.
Picture Postcard
The undated photograph shows Walter Rutt wearing the outfit that many professionals used to wear on summer days at the time: a sleeveless white jersey.
French magazine
A few days after his victory at the World Sprinter Racing Championships in Leipzig, Walter Rutt's portrait graced the cover of the French sports magazine “Le Plein Air.”
Postcard from the 1907 World Championships
In 1907, Walter Rutt won the bronze medal in the World Championship final behind Emil Friol and Henry Mayer.
Contrary to his usual habit, Mayer started in short racing socks; he normally wore long socks that reached up to his thighs and had become his personal trademark.
