Collectibles 6
Illustrated magazine, 1926
The photo on the front page of “JZ” was taken a few minutes before Walter Rutt's farewell lap at the Berlin Sportpalast on January 12, 1926. He warms up on the roller.
"Germany's greatest racing cyclist, Walter Rutt, took the Berlin sports press celebration as an opportunity to retire from professional cycling. For decades, when talking about internationally significant, indeed the very best cyclists, one had to mention the name of the German world champion first and foremost. A captivating book could be written about the many wonderful victories that Rutt achieved in all parts of the world. He was world class as a sprinter, tandem rider, and in six-day races."
Postcard from the 1911 European Championship
The European championship title was Walter Rutt's greatest success of the 1911 season. In Leipzig, he beat Lorenz, Peter, and Schurmann to take the title.

Collectible picture with motif of the Rutt Arena
One of the most valuable items in the collection is this very rare collector's picture from 1927, which was included in cigarette packs from the “Greiling” company at the time.
The text printed on the back reads: “The Rutt Arena is a small wooden racetrack modeled on the American design. It allows the audience to follow the races particularly well. In particular, it has created a long-awaited home for cycle sprinters.”

Colored postcard
One of Walter Rutt's earliest supporters was the cycling journalist and later president of the German Cycling Federation, Johann Heinrich Stevens.
In 1901, he had this elaborately designed postcard printed at his own expense.
Photo from Italy
The undated photograph shows Walter Rutt after a victorious race on an Italian cycling track.
According to the stamp on the back, the photo comes from the archives of “La Gazzetta dello Sport.”

Collector's picture of the four-man match
The cyclists Ellegaard, Rutt, Schurmann, and Moretti are pictured on this collector's card at the start of the sprinter's race.
The procedure for obtaining the accompanying album seems somewhat strange today. The note on the back reads:
“Anyone who sends 200 of these pictures to the publisher will receive a stylish and durable collector's album free of charge. The pictures will be returned undamaged.”
